Under “Prevention of cruelty against animals Act” 1960. The Government of India has banned the exhibition of Wild animals such as Lions, Tigers, Bears and Monkeys in circuses and public places. S.V. Zoological Park is one among the 7 Zoos selected for creating Anima Rescue Centres (ARC) in the year 1999.

This Rescue Centre will be like orphanage where improved upkeep and health care is provided to the animals. At present there are 9 lions and 14 lioness in the Animal Rescue Centre – I & II of S.V. Zoological Park, Tirupati. The Central Zoo Authority (CZA) will provide the budget for upkeep of these animals.
